Architecture is the discipline of composing inhabitable order from given constraints. Site, materials, regulations, weight, weather: the architect builds with what is there rather than wishing it simpler. Complexity is not the obstacle to the work, complexity is the material.

The architect’s role is to coordinate the other trades. The discipline holds together engineering, regulation, function, and decoration where modern professions have come to separate them.
